Helen Lennon Trophy 2018 – Junior Open Boys & Girls

The Junior Committee of Woodbrook Golf Club will be hosting our annual Junior Open tournament to honour the legacy of Helen Lennon on Friday 24th August 2018 in Woodbrook GC.

Helen was an esteemed sportswoman who will be remembered as an accomplished international tennis player, a non-playing captain to the Irish Fed Cup team in the early 1980s, one of Ireland’s leading tennis coaches and manager to the Irish squash team.

From our perspective, Helen will be remembered as our friend. As an esteemed member of our Club she was instrumental in the revival of the Women’s 36 hole Scratch Cup at Woodbrook. A major event in the ILGU’s Scratch Cup Circuit, the tournament attracts a field of Ireland’s top women amateur golfers on an annual basis.

Helen was a magnificent supporter of Junior Golf in Woodbrook. She was never short of an encouraging word for both boys and girls embarking on their golfing careers. A role-model in the promotion of golf, she loved life, laughed lots and regularly. Her characteristic good humour and sense of fun will be sadly missed by her many sporting companions and lifelong friends.

Helen’s role in the promotion and development of golf cannot and should not be forgotten.

• Competitors must be U20 years of age on 1st January 2018 and must hold a GUI/ILGU competition handicap.
• Singles 18 hole Stableford
• Timesheet from 12:00 to 16:00

• A supervised 4 Hole scramble for Woodbrook Cubs will take place between 15:45 and 16:00 – Cubs interested in playing should contact Caddymaster directly.
