Helen Lennon Perpetual Trophy 2016
Posted in JUNIOR GOLF ... August 9th, 2016
Helen Lennon was an esteemed sportswoman who will be remembered as an accomplished international tennis player, a non-playing captain to the Irish Fed Cup team in the early 1980s, one of Ireland’s leading tennis coaches and manager to the Irish squash team.
From our perspective, Helen will be remembered as our friend. As an esteemed member of our Club she was instrumental in the revival of the Women’s 36 hole Scratch Cup at Woodbrook. A major event in the ILGU’s Scratch Cup Circuit, the tournament attracts a field of Ireland’s top women amateur golfers on an annual basis.
Helen was a magnificent supporter of Junior Golf in Woodbrook. She was never short of an encouraging word for both boys and girls embarking on their golfing careers. A role-model in the promotion of golf, she loved life, laughed lots and regularly. Her characteristic good humour and sense of fun will be sadly missed by her many sporting companions and lifelong friends.
Helens role in the promotion and development of golf cannot and should not be forgotten. The Junior Committee of Woodbrook Golf Club will be holding our annual Junior Open tournament to honour the legacy of Helen on Monday 22nd August 2016 in Woodbrook GC.
Competitors must be U20 years of age on 1st January 2016 and must hold a GUI/ILGU competition handicap.
