U15 Match Report

Our U15 Team got their Leinster Interclub campaign off to a great start last Sunday in an away match to Powerscourt GC.

Despite their relative inexperience they produced a performance they can be proud of and were unlucky to be narrowly beaten 3:2 on the day.

Match 1 saw our youngest player, Cian Adams make a remarkable comeback from 5 down through 7 to get his match back to all square through 16 holes. A great up and down from Powerscourt on 17th saw Cian dormy 1. On the 18th hole, Cian had a putt to go up the 19th hole but was unluky to see his putt shave the hole.

Zach Boyle at Match 2 got off to a great start which saw him 4 up through 9 holes. A strong comeback from Powerscourt on the back 9 saw them get within 1 hole but thanks to some fine ball striking, Zach closed out his match on 16 with a 4&3 win.

Our newest addition to Woodbrook, Andrew Doyle gave a sterling performance on the day. His long and accurate hitting allied with a temperament beyond his years ensured a comfortable 4&3 win.

Tom Grennell played at Match 4 in what was the closest encounter of the day. Two equally skilful and well matched players jostled in a closely contested match. Tom showed magnificent short iron play on the day to keep the match alive all the way to the 17th hole.

Despite some magnificent golf, our low man Myki Mc Gilligan found his putter cold on the day. Despite some superb striking, he was unlucky to succumb to his opponent who made the very best of local knowledge to close out his match before the 18th hole.

Given that we had no home advantage, this was a fantastic result for our U15’s. Our home leg will be played next Sunday at 3pm. All support welcome.
